Mendeley

Mendeley is a computer program developed by the publishing company Elsevier for managing research papers and searching research data. Mendeley is also often used to create citations and bibliographies in scientific papers, journals, and theses.
Mendeley will greatly help students in completing assignments. In addition to the easy process and saving time, using Mendeley can also prevent plagiarism.
Here are the steps to download Mendeley for free:
- Download the Mendeley app and visit the official Mendeley page at https://www.mendeley.com/download-reference-manager/windows.
- Register using your email account and complete your personal details.
- Once done, click ‘Register’.
Here are the steps to connect Mendeley to Microsoft Word:
- Open the Mendeley application.
- Sign in using your email and password.
- After logging in, the Welcome to Mendeley window will appear.
- Click “Install MS Word plug-in” to connect Mendeley with MS Word. Make sure you do not have the Word application open while doing this step.
- If the Welcome window does not appear, you can perform an alternative step by accessing the “Tools” menu in the Mendeley application, then selecting “Install MS Word plug-in”.
- Open MS Word to check if Mendeley is already connected. You can do this by clicking on the “References” tab.
Mendeley is ready to be used in MS Word.
Here are the steps to enter data into writing:
- Collect the journals you want to use as references in PDF format.
- Open the Mendeley application, click “Create Folder” to create a new folder.
- On the right panel of the folder, right-click and select “Add Files”, then select the PDFs as references that have been collected.
- Synchronize the newly inserted PDF so that it can directly connect with MS Word when searching for it. To do this, click “Sync” under the menu.
- Once successful, double-check the reference information such as author details and others.
Here are the steps to create an Internet Reference:
- Open the Mendeley application.
- Click “File” and select “Add Entry Manual”.
- Enter the required data such as title, author, year, website link, etc.
- Before filling in the required data, make sure you select the article type as “Web Page”.
- Click “Save” to save the reference from the internet.
- Synchronize the reference that you have saved with MS Word.
- Insert citations and bibliography by clicking on the “References” tab.
- Use “Insert Citation” to insert citations, and “Bibliography” for the bibliography. Don’t forget to change the citation and bibliography style according to the requested writing requirements.
How to make citations in Mendeley:
- Open the document you are writing.
- Place the cursor at the end of the sentence to which you want to add a citation or quote.
- Click the “References” tab and then click “Insert Citation”. Type in the author’s name or title to find the desired citation.
- Or, after clicking “Insert Citation”, go to Mendeley, select the journal you want to cite, and then click “Cite”.
Creating an automatic bibliography in Mendeley:
- Create a special page for the bibliography.
- Click “References” and select “Bibliography”.
- Wait for the bibliography to appear.
